Although born to a British-Nevisian mother and a Nevisian father, Vanel’s roots stretch across the Leeward Islands, including Anguilla and St. Martin. A passionate explorer of cultures, poetry, art and of course architecture she is also a history enthusiast and an active member of the Nevis Historical Conservation Society Youth Group.
Professionally, Vanel works as a Senior Valuation Officer for the Nevis Island Administration and aspires to design environments that are accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone; promoting harmony, comfort, and cultural connection. She believes in bridging cultural identity with sustainable and thoughtful design, leveraging smart property planning to strengthen outcomes. Dedicated to shaping buildings and public spaces that reflect stories of memory, identity, and hope, Vanel brings the same curiosity and creativity to her pursuits outside of work striving to make heritage spaces functional, inclusive, and sustainable for future generations.
She also explores her creativity as a multidisciplinary artist in painting, pencil, and digital media. Her art explores the intersections of emotion, environment, and identity, often blending traditional and digital techniques to create a dynamic and expressive visual language. Her academic background in Architecture, grounded in urbanism, inclusive design and building conservation, profoundly informs her creative process, uniting her professional aspirations with her artistic practice.
Her life is guided by two mantras passed down from her parents:
“There is no such thing as luck. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.”- Her Mother “You don’t have to be liked by everyone, but you should be respected by all.” - Her Father
