Arquela Bendeito

Ella AB.

Arquela is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores cultural identity, memory, and heritage, while also engaging surrealism, imagination, and whimsy as independent creative directions. Born and raised in Nevis, her culturally rooted work is informed by the island’s historical narratives, symbolic traditions, and lived experience. Alongside this, she develops imaginative, dreamlike worlds that move beyond cultural reference, allowing space for fantasy, emotional exploration, and intuitive creation.

Working across painting, drawing, digital art, and mixed media, Arquela constructs visually layered compositions characterized by vivid color, intricate detail, and strong compositional rhythm. Her cultural works function as acts of preservation and reflection, while her surreal pieces provide freedom to conjure, invent, and play.

Beyond the studio, she is actively involved in cultural preservation and education, contributing to initiatives that safeguard intangible heritage. Together, these dual practices position her work between documentation and imagination, honoring tradition while embracing boundless creative possibility.
